Rules:Banning

From CollectiveIRC

Jump to: navigation, search

Unfortunately, we sometimes have to place bans on users who choose to become a disruption to CollectiveIRC as a whole or who are abusive to one (or more) particular users. We are an open community, but even we have to set limits. What good is a network that allows users to abuse other people (somehow...DalNet comes to mind)?

Because we place bans on individual users most of the time, the impact is usually rather low. But on occasion the ban affects more than one person, or it might affect a completely innocent user who happens to get a re-used IP later on down the line.

If you try to connect to CollectiveIRC and have been g-lined, you should first look in the list below to see if there is any specific reason why you are g-lined, and if you are not listed there, contact us at gline@collectiveirc.net and request removal.

However, if you are somehow in the list below, when you contact us, you will need to provide us with your IP/hostname/ISP and the date you tried to connect. The reason for this is simple. The bans we have listed in the list below are very broad and meant to deal with a larger issue. Sadly, these bans are going to be rather difficult, if not impossible, to work around, and we may have to make special arrangements to help legitimate users bypass them.

Please note: This list may be incomplete or may even not list certain bans on purpose. We reserve the right to publish only those bans we see fit to be open to the public. There is no course of action to request the entire ban list from CollectiveIRC, nor will we provide such a list.

Lists of g-lines on CollectiveIRC:

  1. Approximately 25 nicknames from various French (.fr) ISPs. - If you come from a .fr domain and get g-lined, change your nickname and reconnect.
  2. Numericable.fr
  3. GoGloom bots - These bots are nothing short of trojans that are scanning for vulnerable networks. The people running these bots are professional hackers, content scrapers, spammers, and general cyber criminals. They are considered harmful and dangerous. Don't bother contacting us about getting the ban removed, it won't happen. [1]
  4. I-AM-BOT bots - Do I really need to qualify this one?

We thank you for your understanding in doing what we must to keep out network sane. We realize that in this crazy world there just isn't a sane way to fully block an individual user or group. We do what we must, and that's all we can do.
